Through the concerted efforts of various entities within Denver South High School and beyond (weekly deliveries of fresh fruits, yoghurt, milk, and vegetables from We Don't Waste and non-perishable items provided by Food for Thought and Food Bank of the Rockies) our school community has been knit together by food. The Denver South Food Bank provides our students with access to quality food items weekly and their families monthly access to the Denver South Food Pantry. Using a client-choice model, our students/families are able to shop for what they need and when they need it, in an effort to eliminate food insecurity at Denver South.
Donations can be made online by clicking the "food bank donation button" above or by check sent to the following address with Denver South Food Bank written on the memo line:
Denver South PTSA c/o Denver South High School 1700 E. Louisiana Ave. Denver, CO 80210
In kind donations (see below) are accepted and can be delivered to the Main Office at Denver South High School.
**Although our needs change monthly, there are non-perishable items students request on a regular basis. Without community support, we would not be able to provide these items.
Toothpaste 48 ounces bottles of cooking oil (BIG NEED)
Body Wash Boxes of Cereal
Shampoo Canned pineapple and mandarin oranges
Feminine Hygiene Products (pads only) Dried green and red lentils (no cans please)
Dried red beans (no cans please) Smaller bottles of laundry detergent
Small bottles of honey Smaller boxes of pancake mix
White pasta Cans of tomato paste
14oz. cans tomato sauce
All personal care items must be sealed & unopened. We cannot accept used items; they will be tossed.
**In most cases students are carrying food home on the bus; smaller sizes work best. Glass jars are heavy and difficult for students to carry.
